With red being the colour of true blooded passion my scarf pick for Valentine’s day has to be Blood Moon. An oversized square scarf printed on sumptuously soft wool twill and carefully hand finished with a frayed edge, this is sure to wrap you up in colour, warmth and love.

The design features Pictish maidens, set in the Aberdeenshire landscape. These Pictish people so called because they illustrated their skin and carved standing stones with a variety of mystical symbols. My pictish ladies are quite fanciful, taking after the pre-raphelite aesthetic, but while they might be fanciful, in my mind they were also warrior like and powerful.

The scarf has them stood amongst their stone circle, in the light of the blood moon surrounded by the creatures and plant life of the hills and  forest, summoning the spirits and powers of nature. The greatest comment I had on this design was that the wearer felt her scarf brought connection to the land and nature.

So if you are looking to envelope the one you love (and that means yourself too!) in warmth and colour and Pictish mystery could be the scarf for you.

My top tip for styling your scarf for a romantic night out, fold your square scarf on the diagonal to create a triangle shape. Throw this over a little black dress, then tuck into a wide waist belt. Perfect to keep cosy and stylish for your romantic night out (or in!)
